Grey's Anatomy

Just one scene from Grey's Anatomy.
Ok, maybe you have the opinion: another movie like ER; something connected with hospitals that I cannot even watch if I am not a doctor...but I would dare you to try :). What I like about it is that it has a small story and even wisdom thoughts behind each episode! And it does really keep you alert :). You can watch it on TVR1 at midnight (Monday-Friday) - for Romanians :). If not, I am sure torrent and youtube is a good option.

Ah, and yes, I am still enjoying my holidays...what is wrong with my matching process, I wonder?

Simply amazing!

Muqimyar relishes Olympic place

Sprinter Robina Muqimyar does not have a qualified trainer, she has no sponsor, she comes from a country ruined by war and she grew up under hardline Islamist rulers who would not tolerate girls playing sport.

Little wonder that she stands little chance of a medal at the Beijing Olympics.
But Muqimyar, the only woman among four athletes representing Afghanistan at the Games, said she would just be happy if she could improve the 100 metres time she clocked up at Athens four years ago, 14.14 seconds.
"I'm the luckiest girl in the world to participate in two Olympic Games, and I hope to get to London," she said after a ceremony to raise the black-green-gold tricolour of Afghanistan among a sea of flags at the athletes' village.
Although Afghan society remains deeply conservative, some things have improved for women since 2001, when U.S.-led and Afghan forces ousted the Taliban rulers.
Muqimyar, dressed in a headscarf, said that most people in her country would be very proud that a female athlete was representing them in a world sports event.
Her Olympic teammates include two taekwondo competitors and a men's 100 metres runner, Masoud Azizi, a 23-year-old.

No training facilities
There is not a single proper running track in the whole country and athletes in Kabul, the capital, train at a sports stadium where the Taliban used to hold public executions.
"We have to run on concrete," said Azizi, another Athens Olympian who went to Malaysia for five months before the Beijing Games to train.
His best time in the 100 metres is 10.87 seconds.
"Under the Taliban regime it was very difficult to be an athlete but now with (President Hamid) Karzai things are better," he said.
"Afghanistan faces a huge funding crisis. At international donor meetings funds go to schools, health and construction but no one considers sports," he said.

(Thanks Dan for the article, it is really impressive: passion, hard-work and committment)

Romania is good in sports :)

These days, everyone is checking the Olympics to see if his/her own country won something. Everyone or almost everyone is talking about results on TV, showing more or less criticism. As for Romanian media, I would say more criticism ...everyone expects a lot from our representatives to Beijing.

But I would say we should be proud: after 10 days of Olympics, the result for Romania is ranked on the 12th place in terms of medals won:

4 Gold medals:
Judo: 48 kg: Dumitru Alexandra
Women Gymnastics: Izbasa Sandra
Rowing: Women pair: Andrunache Georgeta, Susanu Viorica
Athletics: Women Marathon: Constantina Dita

1 Silver Medal:
Fencing: Branza Ana-Maria

3 Bronze Medals:
Fencing: Mihai Covaliu
Women's team in Gymnastics
Rowing: Women Eight

All in all, I would say that Romania is on top during these Olympics and we should not criticize them so much if they are not winning! We are between the best countries in the world and we are known in some sports! We are really good in rowing, gymastics, handball, athletics, swimming. We made history in some of these sports (the first and also last perfect 10 in Gymnastics belong to Romanians: Nadia Comaneci and Lavinia Milosevici!!!).

The only problem is that sports could be at such a high level in our country if there would be more investments made in infrastucture and also if more young people would be taken to sports by their parents! We continue to live in a country with low focus on sports in schools and with big problems of obesity which causes many illnesses!!!

Congratz for all our representatives and keeping fingers crossed for next competitions, tomorrow and until the end of the Olympics! I am proud to be Romanian and to be represented by such people to such a competition!

Blog in action day

One idea on how to act :).

In the last few weeks, I followed the conflict in Georgia and was amazed by how our world is upside down! Maybe one day like this will not do wonders, but it can try! JOIN!

Just found out that Romania is going to play a football match against..LATVIA :D.
The date: 20th of August
Location: Urziceni, Romania (great place :D. I remember the abandoned train station I passed by some years ago).

Quite funny, interesting coincidence? :)
Well, Romania defeated Latvia in handball in the winter, maybe now Latvia can be more successful?

Enjoying the universe of books!

As lately I have been going to a library to read and enjoy the new building of our Municipal Library, I am quite much into the universe of books now. So I also found one really nice book I got as a present some years ago which says (sorry, it is in romanian:) you can use google translate :D):

"Prima lectie a iubirii consta in a nu solicita iubire, ci in a o darui.

I was reading one post on another blog about love so I think this fits as an excellent answer to what it means. So I just wanted to share with you great lines from a good book! Will keep on doing so as I am much into reading :)
